In selecting a farm, we know this short list of non-compromisable criteria:
- Clean Water
- Clean Air
- A simple, small, efficient home
- Access to urban markets
Once we find the place that calls to us, we have quite a list of possible developments that we’ve dreamed up to make the land speak. The end goal may be many years down the road, but the day to day work towards this will make us thrive. Our lives’ work will be represented by a piece of ground that has been enriched through our work into a place of surrender, beauty, and restoration for all who step onto the land.
Here are some of the ideas for our farm vision that we may carry to fruition:
Commercial Kitchen for processing produce and livestock.
A people’s microbrewery and winery for our BarN
The BarN is a barn that occasionally serves as a down home bar with music and spirits.
Beaten copper tubs - a spa like component with high quality water, either purified or spring-fed
Event center for weddings, business retreats (where Betsy could run facilitation), or other events.
Bed & Breakfast
Educational experiential livestock slaughtering and processing.
Workshop experiences including herbalism, seed saving, composting, processing vegetables, all our favorite activities.
Family oriented progressive dinners.
Independent agricultural product trials.
Pasturing animals for soil restoration.
Home-base machine shop for a custom soil restoration business serving eroded row crop soils to bring them into increased production.
Orchard and Berry Patch.
Not to mention the most beautiful pleasure garden, acres of produce and grains (we aspire to grow most all the food we eat).
Flower gardens, herb gardens.
Seed production and greenhouse operation.
Geothermal greenhouse depending on place (we will try to grow tropicals, papayas, citrus - for fun).
